Updates & Course Materials
Each month, we will post any extra materials or handouts that should be printed for class. We will also post writing prompts for each book to help you begin the writing process.
A Big Tip About Writing
It is enormously helpful to begin thinking about your essay WHILE you are reading the work, rather than waiting until AFTER you finish it.
By this, I don’t mean writing paragraphs — or even complete sentences. Start with a few questions, and develop more questions as you read.
Pay special attention to what you find interesting, confusing, infuriating, surprising, or fun in the book. When you sense a spark of interest or passion about something, do your best to fan it — and take a few notes.
If you cultivate that interest while you read and collect a little evidence for your topic as you go, you will usually find that the writing itself becomes much easier.
